The Lamp Post Inn is located on bus route #4, the main bus line connecting Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.  The AATA operates the bus service and the busses are clean and the drivers helpful.

Bus route #4 passes directly by the Lamp Post Inn and service goes directly to the campus areas of both the University of Michigan and the Eastern Michigan.  The bus also goes directly to the University of Michigan hospital and the downtown areas of both Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.  Specific bus schedules can be found at the AATA website but generally bus route #4 runs every 15 minutes during the peak hours of the day and every half hour during non rush periods.  Weekends are hourly and more limited so you may want to verify specific times.  The bus schedule lists our stop as either Manchester or Sheridan.

For customers staying at the Lamp Post Inn the expected ride times are generally -

  • 8 minutes to South University (south side of the central Univ. of Mich campus)
  • 13 minutes to the University of Michigan Hospital, Mott Hospital and the Taubman Center
  • 20 minutes to State Street (North side of the central Univ. of Mich campus
  • 25 minutes to downtown Blake Transportation Center (downtown Ann Arbor)
  • 20 minutes to downtown Ypsilanti Area (15 minutes)
  • 15 minutes to Eastern Michigan campus
  • Please note that the North Campus of the University of Michigan will need a transfer to either route 22 or route 1 and the total ride could take 45 minutes with wait times at transfer locations.

The cost is $1.25 per ride (new fares are being introduced in May 2010) and you will need exact change.  Transfers to other bus routes are free.  There are numerous bus routes and by transferring between lines it is possible to reach almost any location in Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti.  Be aware – even though bus #4 runs a full route on the weekends and evenings, some of the other routes may have more limited schedules or stops during those periods of time.

A second bus line (#14) passes the Lamp Post Inn andgoes to the area of the Crisler Arena, the University of Michigan football stadium and Pioneer High School but there is no service on that route on weekends and evenings.  That means that that route does not run during football and basketball games so most of our customers either walk (and park free in our lot) or take a taxi.  The distance to the stadium is a little less than 2 miles through a mostly residential area.

A complimentary copy of the Ride Guide and bus schedule is available at the front desk of the Lamp Post Inn.
