Each spring we are proud to welcome back a number of high school coaches that stay with us annually during the University of Michigan Football Coaches Clinic. This year the clinic will be held March 29-31. This is the same weekend as the Ann Arbor Film Festival so it would appear to be a blockbuster weekend in Ann Arbor as well as at the Lamp Post Inn.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke and the Wolverines coaching staff will host the annual Michigan Football Coaches Clinic Thursday through Saturday, March 29-31.

“The clinic is always a great time because you’re surrounded by other coaches who enjoy teaching football and whose passion it is to help develop our youth,” said Hoke. “This year’s clinic lineup features some of the region’s best high school and college football coaches, and our entire staff is available in chalk talk sessions and on-the-field demonstrations.”

The clinic includes three days of Wolverines spring practices starting Thursday, March 29. The clinic will begin in Schembechler Hall on Thursday and continue in the U-M Indoor Track Building on Friday, with practices being held in Glick Field House. Saturday’s clinic will be held in the Junge Family Champions Center and will conclude with practice at Michigan Stadium. Practice locations will be dictated by weather conditions.

On Thursday, members of the Michigan coaching staff will hold breakout sessions following practice. On Friday, select high school coaches will speak prior to lunch, and following a strength and conditioning overview by Aaron Wellman and breakout sessions with members of the video, equipment and athletic training staffs, members of the Michigan coaching staff will speak and run field demonstrations. Friday evening will include presentations by Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and offensive coordinator Al Borges and will conclude with chalk talks with the entire Michigan coaching staff.

Big House Big Heart Run April 15 – Special hotel rates

The Big House Big Heart event will move from it’s traditional date in October to April 15th. This event will be in conjunction with the Spring Football Game to be played the previous day at The Big House (University of Michigan Stadium). The race is sponsored by the Champions for Charity. The funds raised by the event are used by several area non-profits including ALS research at the University of Michigan and the UM Cardiovascular Center at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital.

The race starts and finishes at the University of Michigan’s famous football stadium–The Big House. It is the largest stadium in the country seating over 107,000 spectators. This chip-timed 5K starts in the parking lot east of The Big House and the run takes you through the University of Michigan’s beautiful campus with a spectacular finish–a run through the Big House tunnel and onto the field. The Ann Arbor Summer Festival has announced that Bonnie Raitt will perform at Hill Auditorium on May 25th. This will be a “pre-festival” event for the Summer Festival. The full schedule of performances will be announced at a later date but this pre-event will certainly get the festival off to a fabulous start.

Filmmaking Pioneer Bruce Baillie in Attendance for 50th

We are proud to announce a special appearance by renowned avant-garde filmmaker Bruce Baillie at the 50th festival. Baillie will be one of our honored guest returning to Ann Arbor to present three programs of his work as part of our 50th celebration.

In 1963 Baillie’s worked screened with a partial retrospective during the first year of a festival. A pioneer of the American avant-garde film movement, Baillie will discuss his work and his influence on film culture with the AAFF audience.

The 82 year-old is most well known as the founder of Canyon Cinema distribution and co-creator of the San Francisco Cinematheque, an acclaimed series of experimental film, digital media, and performance cinema that continues to this day.

The Red Wings lobbied to have the game at Comerica Park, but the NHL couldn’t pass up an opportunity to hold this annual outdoor spectacle at “The Big House,” where it is expected to attract a record crowd in excess of 110,000. To appease Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch, a rink will be constructed at Comerica Park. The home of the Detroit Tigers will host other events leading up to the Winter Classic, including the alumni game and possibly the Great Lakes Invitational.
